Cold Sore Product Buyer’s Guide (updated November 2025)

Olympian Labs Herp-Eeze

Olympian Labs has a product called Herp-Eeze that is formulated to target the Herpes virus by boosting the immune system. We liked that they offer a long-term solution that includes clinically proven ingredients that are all-natural, which we felt was a great start. We studied their formula to find out whether it is truly effective and while we were ultimately impressed, it did fall short when compared to our first pick.

Herp-Eeze has a powerful daily dose of Prunella vulgaris (900 mg) which is meant to provide significant antioxidant properties. The company claims this ingredient fights against viruses, to help destroy them. The ingredient that really caught our attention is L-lysine. This supplement offers a generous amount of 800 mg L-lysine per daily serving. The amount is still not as high as we would have liked it to be (ideally it should be at 1000 mg per daily serving), however we liked that this was one of the main ingredients. L-lysine has shown to be highly effective in combating cold sores and helping the body retain a strong immune system.

It is clear to see that this is a top-rated product, so we were surprised to find that the only vitamins and minerals in this formula are Vitamin C and Zinc. While we were pleased to see these included, we were left wondering why the manufacturer didn’t also include B vitamins or Vitamin D, which are known to strengthen the immune system and support healthy skin recovery. This was somewhat disappointing.

The next ingredients we looked into were the herbs included in the formula. These consist of Prunella Vulgaris, Olive Leaf, Acerola, Clove Extract, and Melon. These botanicals have been researched for their antiviral properties and their potential to inhibit the replication of the Herpes Simplex Virus, which causes cold sores. While it appears the manufacturer designed this formula to support general herpes-related conditions, we were hoping to see more targeted ingredients for cold sore relief. For example, Lemon Balm is well known for soothing irritation and promoting healing, while Carvacrol and Proteolytic Enzymes provide strong anti-inflammatory support. Their absence was a missed opportunity.

Another ingredient we always look for, BioPerine®, was also missing here. This is unfortunate since BioPerine® can greatly improve nutrient absorption, allowing the body to utilize the supplement more efficiently and deliver results faster. However, if bioavailability isn’t a major concern for you, then keep reading to learn more.

Is Olympian Labs Herp-Eeze Effective?

We found a good number of customer reviews for this product, most of which were positive, though some users mentioned issues such as residue on the capsules or lack of visible results. Overall, the feedback gave us confidence that the formula can be effective for some people.

Another important consideration is the guarantee. Unfortunately, there isn’t one. This means if you’re not satisfied, you can’t request a refund. For a product that costs between $55 and $65, that’s a significant drawback. While we did find a standard return policy that allows unopened items to be returned within 30 days, it’s not the same as a true satisfaction guarantee, which left us disappointed.

Is Olympian Labs Herp-Eeze Safe?

Overall, there’s no reason to believe this product isn’t safe to take. The ingredients are all-natural and free from fillers or artificial additives. The supplement is also manufactured in a cGMP-certified facility, which ensures quality standards are met. As always, it’s best to consult your healthcare provider before starting any new supplement regimen.

Summary

We always appreciate products that base their formulas on scientific research and clinical data, as these tend to yield the best results. Olympian Labs has included several ingredients that are backed by research for supporting the body’s natural defenses against the Herpes Simplex Virus. However, while the product shows promise for general herpes management, we found its formulation less specialized for cold sore prevention and relief than expected.

There are some solid ingredients here, such as L-lysine and Vitamin C. L-lysine is well recognized for helping reduce cold sore frequency, and Vitamin C provides antioxidant support to aid the healing process. Together, they help strengthen the immune system, which is key for managing outbreaks. However, the dosage of L-lysine is relatively low at 800 mg per daily serving, whereas studies suggest that around 1000 mg or more may be needed for optimal results. Additionally, the serving size requires taking four capsules daily, which feels excessive.

Because this isn’t a cold sore-specific supplement, we noticed several missing elements that could make it more effective—such as B vitamins, Carvacrol, Proteolytic Enzymes, adaptogenic mushrooms, and BioPerine® for enhanced absorption. The lack of a money-back guarantee also raises concerns about how much confidence the manufacturer has in its own product. Companies that truly stand behind their formulas generally offer full satisfaction guarantees. If they don’t believe in their product, why should consumers?
